Recent research says houses in Phuket are 3 to 5 times more expensive than Bangkok.

CHC-300x225The Chairman of the Executive Committee, Research and Information Center of the Thai Real Estate Mr. Sopon said that a research concluded that housing projects in Phuket sold at prices up to 5 time more expensive than in Bangkok.

Well…this is hardly surprising, is it? I mean, Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and by far the most popular destination to buy a holiday home in The Land Of Smiles.

The prices shows the large buying power of people in Phuket. However real estate for locals and Thai people in Phuket still relies on the situation of the touristm industry and some 90% (unofficially) of properties in Phuket are owned by foreigners.

At the moment the average price for a house in Phuket is 14.7 million THB while the average price in Bangkok is 3 million THB.

But I bet that the chairman Mr. Sopon forget to mention that the properties in Phuket also have western facilities such as kitchen ad bathroom…and some have beach access and sea view….

But OK….it is a fact that Phuket is more expensive than Bangkok and that is hardly surprising, right?

This house comparison between bangkok & phuket is irrelevant. In bkk there are many projects much more expensive than phuket. There are many companies like sensiri & land & house r offering good houses between 4-6 million baht & if u compare with patong i agree with u.. But in general this comparison is wrong.. Have you ever asked the price of a villa in bangkok with a sea view?

I agree with you, Harry. Thanks for your comment πŸ˜‰
It of course depends much on location… If you look at the land prices in Bangkok center, then the price is more than the double of land prices in Phuket… up to 500 million THB per rai! πŸ˜‰
So here the property prices are actually more expensive than in Phuket πŸ™‚

This comparison is completely pointless. Phuket is mainly tourist and foreign ownership based. Bangkok is, for the most part, Thai citizen owned. On the other end of the scale for properties in Bangkok, they are some of the most expensive in the kingdom. I think to draw up a comparison based on just overall perception is stupid, you need to include some facts and figures.

Thanks, Roger. I could not agree more with you πŸ˜‰
I just point out what Mr. Sopon said…
Indeed I find it somewhat interesting and wanted to know how he reached his conclusion, but I never got a straight answer from him πŸ˜‰
